The Craft Guild of Chef's Brick Fund Dinner, which raises money for the structural upkeep of the association’s head office, is set to take place next month, organisers have confirmed. The annual event, postponed last year due to unforeseen circumstances, is back with a vengeance and will take place at Westminster Kingsway College on February 2nd (7.30pm). Organisers are now taking table bookings and are on the hunt for raffle prizes to make the event one of the highlights in this year’s industry calendar. On the night, dinner will be prepared by members of the Craft Guild's Culinary Academy team, aided by top students at Westminster Kingsway College, and will start off with grilled mackerel, seared scallop, beetroot, Winter radish and pickled cucumber salad. For main course, guests will be served roasted cannon of Cornish lamb and slow cooked middle neck, served with a white bean purée and braised potato tasting of fennel, finishing off with rhubarb and sweet milk crumble with lemon, marshmallow and sorrel. Nick Vadis, vice president and past chairman of the Guild, said the Brick Fund Dinner raised a staggering £7,500 in 2010 through the generosity of everyone involved. “Unfortunately, the dinner had to be cancelled in 2011, but we had many, many calls to bring it back this year,” he said. “It is such a tremendous evening which, ultimately, allows us to carry on with the essential repairs and renovations to our head office. Without the funds, it would, quite simply, be impossible to complete. “To make the night absolutely fantastic, we need more bums on seats as well as prizes, so the more people and companies that can get involved, the better it will be.” The Brick Fund was first introduced 30 years ago by the Cookery & Food Association to buy the head office in Victoria Parade in Richmond, Surrey – the idea being that members purchased a brick or two which allowed The Guild to purchase the entire property. It was reintroduced during the chairmanship of Nick Vadis to maintain and renovate the invaluable industry HQ that also houses The Guild’s extensive Library of cookery books, both classic and modern, that are available for members to browse in the boardroom.
